Dariusz Machej began his musical education at the age of five, learning to play the violin. He was developing his interest in music in the "Cantus" Old Music Assembly in Bielsko-Biala.

In 1993, as a student of prof. Edward Pawlak at the Frederic Chopin Secondary Music School in Warsaw, he won the first prize at the Franciszka Platowna all-Poland Vocal Competition in the city of Wroclaw. He is a regular participant in prof. Ryszard Karczykowski's vocal courses. In 1999, he won the first prize at the competition crowning the master course devoted to the rendition of vocal music.

In the year 2000, Dariusz Machej graduated from the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw in the singing class of prof. Wlodzimierz Zalewski. In the same year, he won the third prize and the prize for the best bass at the Adam Didur Opera Vocalism in the city of Bytom.

As early as in 1997, Dariusz Machej made his debut on the stage of the Warsaw Chamber Opera in the part of Don Magnifico in Gioachino Rossini's opera "La Cenerentola". As a soloist at the Warsaw Chamber Opera, he takes part in many performaces in Cantans Festival in the city of Wroclaw, the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Festival in Warsaw, Baroque Operas Festival in Warsaw, Old Polish Operas Festival in Warsaw, or Festivals of Polish Culture in Beirut and Friedrichshafen.

In the 1999/2000 season, Dariusz Machej gave a guest performance in the Wiener Kammeroper as Betto di Signa in Giacomo Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" opera, and in the 2000/2001 season he gave a guest performance in the Theater der Stadt Koblenz in the part of Masetto in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Don Giovanni" opera under the leadership of Shiao Chia Lee.

The yaer 2000 is the time of debut in prestigious European festivals. At the Bel Canto Rossini Festival in Wildbad, Germany he performed as Oroe in Gioachino Rossini's "Semiramide", and in 2001 he performed the part of Macrobio in Gioachino Rossini's "La pietra del paragone" opera conducted by Alessandro de Marchi.

In the year 2001, at the 63d Festival de Musique de Strasbourg he performed as Trombonok in Gioachino Rossini's "Il viaggio a Reims" under the leadership of Alberto Zedda. He performed in the prestigious Gioachino Rossini festival in Pesaro, Italy, in the Stefano Pavesi's "Un avvertimento ai gelosi" farce as Berto as well as in Giovanni Pacini's "La poetossa idrofoba" as Giovan Matteo.

Since the beginning of 2002, Dariusz Machej has been a soloist at the Opernhaus Wuppertal where he performed the part of Don Magnifico in Gioachino Rossini's "La Cenerentola" opera as well as the part of Angelotti in Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca".

Dariusz Machej has been a solist at the Opernhaus Wuppertal, Germany since 2002. He performed there in Gioachino Rossini's operas as Don Magnifico in "La Cenerentola" and as Bartolo in "In barbiere in Seviglia". He also performed as Cesare Angelotti in Giacomo Puccini's "Toska" opera and as Don Alfonso in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte".

In June of 2003 he performed as Jorgos (the lead) in the premiere of the "Kazelmacher" opera by Kurt Schwertsik conducted by Martin Braun and directed by Gerd Leo Kuck.

In Julay of 2003 Dariusz Machej performed in the polish first performance of the "Dapfnis et Chloe" opera by J.B. Boismortier in the role of Agenor within the XII International Summer Academy of Old Music Wilanów Poland 2003. The concert was transmitted by the Polish Radio Second Programme as well as by EBU Radio Networks within EBU Summer Festival.

The repertoire of Dariusz Machej has been recorded on CDs. It includes:

  • Jozefa Elsnera's "Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi" op. 65 (Coryphaeus I) under the leadership
    of Jacek Kaspszyk
  • "Magnificat 2000" with the works by Gaetano Donizetti and Stanislaw Moniuszko
  • Gioacchino Rossini's "La pietra del paragone" (the part of Macrobio) under the leadership
    of Alessandro de Marchi
